Sunburns in December

By , December 30, 2003 00:00

So we´re sitting here in an ice cream internet cafe, in Florianopolis, Brazil. I bet you didn´t think you´d get an update from here! We would upload pictures to the website, but there´s two problems with that: firstly I can´t upload pictures on a public computer, and secondly I haven´t taken any pictures yet! But I will, I promise. Now back to the beginning…

After a grueling twenty two hours of travel, Heidi and I landed to sunny warm weather here in Brazil. One might think we would be exhausted (and we were), but it was only lunch-time so we dropped our things at our apartment and headed to the beach (three blocks away) for sand, surf, and of course, a sun burn. The first three days were gorgeous and hot, and we´ve seen four different beaches by now. The surf is anywhere from non-existent to five feet high. We had a lot of fun at Joaquina (about four bus rides from here) with huge surf to play in and eighty foot high sand dunes to sandboard down. Yeah Heidi for making it from the top to the bottom without falling!! It´s slower than snowboarding, but just as much fun.

On Lord´s day we took a van into Florianopolis for Sunday School, Breaking of Bread, and Reading meeting. The meetings were in Portugese, but we had a translator so we could understand. It was fellowship dinner so everyone went to a lady´s house from the meeting. It was an all afternoon affair and everyone was very warm and friendly and tried English more than we tried Portugese. There are quite a few people from the meeting staying in this town all week, so we meet up with them most days for dinner or afternoon activities. Lotsa fun…

Tomorrow we hope to take a boat to another island for some exploring and snorkeling. Lots more to tell, but it will have to come later. Tonight, we´re going to grab an ice cream, head back to our apartment, and fall into bed with a smile on our face. Smile all.

We’re Off

By , December 23, 2003 00:00

I didn’t notice that my website was down all day, so I apologize to those who may have been here earlier. I was doing some modifications to our company website yesterday and didn’t notice that I copied over some of the wrong files. Anyway, we don’t have a lot to say this week, except that I thought we should tell you that tomorrow we’re off … off to sunny (hopefully) Florianopolos, Brazil for two weeks. Good-bye to failed offers on houses. Good-bye to work. Good-bye to cold and snow.

This will be the first real “vacation” since our honeymoon, so hopefully we’ll be back with lots of pictures to share.

This is the season for family and love, but I trust all of you take some time to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for your many blessings. If you know the One who covered his glory and became a man here on earth, than you of all people, truly have much to be thankful for and smile about.

Snow Snow Snow

For some reason, Nathan thinks that I really don’t update this site all the time. Can you imagine something so crazy as that? We all know that this is the first thing that we do on Monday morning. We wake up, brush our teeth, and update the website …

So Heidi and I have been travelling quite a bit in the last little while. We were down at the Dorothy conference one weekend back, and then drove from there to Ottawa. We were up in Ottawa all this week, simply relaxing and spending time to ourselves. (If you ask Heidi about this, she might say something about Stellarite, but hey, you read it here first … ) Anyway, we heard a huge snowstorm hitting Boston on Saturday, so we stayed an extra day in Ottawa and came home to our apartment yesterday. You should see it here! Snow. Snow. And more snow! Winter has really hit here so it’s a good thing the motorbike is winterized and we have our warm clothes out. There must be at least a foot and a half down on the ground. I’m not sure if it will stay or not, but I’m sure Heidi hopes it won’t, while I hope it will. Happy Birthday’s to both Teddy and Shawn and smiles to all else.

Waxing Poetic

There’s not much here to tell,
Things have been going quite swell.
We have traveled far and wide,
Coming, going, doing laundry in stride.

It doesn’t seem to be stopping,
So many conferences we are enjoying.
Montreal, and Dorothy for Thanksgiving,
Then on to Brazil for some sun-bathing!

There might not be another update,
Please be satisfied, and not irate.
We’ll be back, but in the meanwhile,
Keep looking up, and don’t forget to smile!

Camden Once More

More pictures there on the right. It’s been a while since I’ve added some new ones, but we spent the weekend up in Newport at Mom Roach’s new house. While I don’t have much good to say about the hour and ten minutes it took us to drive about 20 miles on the way up, it was wonderful to spend the weekend relaxing and going back to where we were married. Saturday was absolutely awesome as we were able to meander through downtown Camden and go back to the Amphitheater. When we first arrived, there was a wedding party there already doing the picture thing. It’s too bad they were 15 months late for the “real” wedding. The rest of the time this weekend was spent relaxing, visiting Dad Roach (Happy Birthday to you), and playing games. Coming back to Boston this Monday, I made it in time for my second hockey game and my second consecutive time scoring a GOOOOAAAALLLL!! Woo hoo. Smile all.
